Our educationists!

This is the latest news from chennai, which is fast becoming the cultural battle ground between old and new. Avinash was detained for wearing dark colored shirt to his college because MNM engineering college has a rule that only light colored shirts be worn. I really dont see the point. why does no one ask relevant questions in our society today. Nobody bothers if MNM engineering college has good labs, good lecturers, good management, good library but dark shirts, well that will spoil students. What is this logic? Why cant they just implement a simple uniform like we have in schools and put an end to dress code controversy.

Comments:
I also thought of the uniform idea and now I'm reading about it here.

please..not uniforms please!!!
even if they bring in uniforms, they would then start bringing a code about how fitting or loose-fitting the uniforms should be....

i dont get it...i think poeple should remeber that they are not taliban!

The Students shud pull up the Mgmt. in the same vein for not providing promised facilities.

@surya, monu and kaps, welcome,
No, I am not for the uniform idea. I totally abhor that. But, it is irritating to see on the things these people concentrate on. They have no clue what professionalism is. Truely speaking, shorts and T-shirts are the best dress for college especially in chennai's sultry weather. :-)

Ok Anna university is in nowhere compared to Stanford and MIT or
SIUC for that matter...
just go to the following links...
1.
http://www.annauniv.edu/research/index.html

it can be reached from clicking the research button on anna university webpage. See what the women are wearing, jeans, sneakers or skirts.

http://www.mit.edu/

see what people are wearing
red or black

http://www.stanford.edu/

click on slide show in stanford.
whats the girl wearing?
And where does stanford stand in terms of research

finally lets go to SIUC where aravind is studying...

http://www.engr.siu.edu/elec/index.htm

see the two girls on the picture what are they wearing?

some people in madras need to point out the double standards in college. Engg students need to protest.

@navin, welcome,
Truely I didnot get your point. I understand that students need to fight against this indian version of talebanisation. And I support them for that. But, what were you trying to tell me by giving various links??!!!

If my post and comments have confused you, this is what I mean and meant. Society should be concentrating on educating and through education inculcating ethics and ideals in the youth. Not arbitrarily policing as cultural guardians and make a fool of themselves.
:-)

thats what I meant aravind.
as you quoted
"Society should be concentrating on educating and through education inculcating ethics and ideals in the youth. Not arbitrarily policing as cultural guardians and make a fool of themselves."

when you goto the links...
you see pictures of people in
various dresses...but the anna
university has double standards.

In research they are nowhere comparable to stanford or MIT,
but in being strict about how women have to dress..they are next
to taliban.
If they had rules like no-smoking zones and punishing ragging and eve-teasing severly then it improves the quality of ethics.

the link to the anna university's research site clearly shows photos of women clad in jeans and Skirts.
If they want to practice what they preach then they need to remove it.

Why have double standards at all?
You want to put a photograph of people graduating then put some photos of anna university students graduating in sober dresses and colors.
Its when Anna University starts making policies of what students have to wear then rebels like me start pointing out the mistakes they have in them.

hope u get the point.

disciplining teen students thru color code is too much.. Ok, they can talk about tamil culture (!!) and tell that you should not distract fellow students..

where will this go and end? a big question!!!!

Defiitely uniform is a no-no at college level. Like monu said, even uniforms can be controversial.Schoolkids can make uniforms as un-uniform as possible!Such incidents are means of taking away attention from real issues like standard of education, facilities & safety

Shame on the authorities.!

Like you mentioned, let them concentrate on giving good education , good learning facilities etc. rather than worry about the cosmetics of the kids.

I wonder what would be the uniform for the teachers in these institutions.!

IDIOTS.!
