Camel herders can do just that

I read this on hindu today. What nonsense is this? Forget legislation and uniform civil code. If Islam and kuran says triple talaq and polygamy is right (note only for males, not for females), then they are wrong. The entire religion is wrong. For that matter any damn religion which says this is wrong. If these people cant come into civilization, then should not crib if civilization leaves them and moves away.

Majority approval for model `nikahnama': Shariat council
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: A State survey conducted by the Shariat Protection Council (SPC) among a cross section of people, including non-Muslims, on the model `nikahnama' showed that a "good majority approve it in toto," SPC convener S.M. Pasha said here on Friday.
He released the findings of the survey, undertaken from May 16 to 24, at a press conference. He said the initiative for a debate on the issue should come from organisations closely connected with the Muslim Personal Law before getting a "green signal" from the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board for a national referendum on the issue. He suggested that seminars be held in all the four metros and important cities such as Lucknow.
Progressive proposals
Denying that the `nikahnama' had skipped the contentious issue of `triple talaq,' Mr. Pasha said it had made progressive recommendations such as making marriages simple and preventing child marriages. It suggested that marital disputes be referred to the Shariat Court only if efforts to resolve them within the family or by mediators failed.
On the sample survey, Mr. Pasha said a total of 2, 672 persons, including 1,102 women and 116 non-Muslims, were interviewed. Of them, 263 were divorcees.
A total of 1, 109 were educated and 376 illiterate. As many as 2,009 were urban residents and 663 lived in villages.
A majority of them felt that the `nikahnama' had rightly interpreted the Islamic law pertaining to the `triple talaq' and polygamy. "Only a small group thinks that the AIMPLB is competent to issue a `fatwa' banning `triple talaq' and polygamy and, therefore, feels that it should have banned them," he said.
The survey also showed that a fairly large section was in favour of referring the disputes to the Qazi. They were opposed to legislation banning `triple talaq' and polygamy.

Revenge of the sith

I was quite literally was waiting for this movie. It was a nice movie but quite sad. On the whole, the entire star wars movies have a shade of sadness in them. It is not nice to see a hero turned into an absolute villain, and more so for his love. Even though the entire galaxy depends on anakin skywalker and luke skywalker, on a personal family level, it is one big tragedy. Anyway, the movie was wonderful in its special effects and left me with the feeling of wanting to see the rest of the sequels.

So far....

I think I have done quite well in my Low Power VLSI course. Not sure what grade I will get. It is quite possible that I might end up getting a B. But, I have really learnt a lot from this course. Needless to stay, the number of hours I had put in to studying the concepts from scratch was really helpful. Now, got to decide what I am going to do for summer.

About poverty in India

There is always another side to any story. When people claim that India's robust growth has uplifted millions of people from poverty, there are always others who claim that the abject poverty of the masses has not changed much. I think both these statements are true. If we put things in proper perspective, then may be it might become a little clearer. Just to see my point, millions in india being lifted out of poverty does not mean anything to a country with a polulations over a billion. As a percentage is it small but in actual number probably higher than certain nations. Is it true that liberalization has brought benefits only to the rich. Yes and no. Yes because, they are the ones largely who have got benefited. So, why do I say no also. The poor in india are poor not because of liberalization (or conversely absence of it????). The reasons for their poverty are political, geographical, cultural and also because of popular thought. All the developing and fast growing regions of india are located along the coast. All the regions like madras, bombay, and later smart cities hyderabad and bangalore had traditional advantages when compared to poor areas like bihar, UP or rajasthan (this is from the times of british). Combined with the caste equations, atrocious politicians, absence of social reforms, little education, all the poor regions have become areas of concentrated poverty. Ofcourse, mother nature does not help much these days (We screw her badly, so she screws us back!!!). If I own a company, I will not set it up so that a region can grow. I will set it up so that I can grow, I can profit. That is how human beings are - that is the reality. so, cant blame companies and MNC's for their indifference to poverty in areas of india.

Just plain stupid

I read this in CNN. When will people realize the world they live in. It is much much more diverse that we could ever imagine. But what is disturbing is that, this is not the first time Denny's is involved in a lawsuit of this kind. They have already been fined for denying service to african americans. Guess we should say good bye to Dennys if it does not change its attitude.

Patience and its limits

It is quite true that I have been quite patient for sometime in my house. what is happeningis that, despite the fact that there is a cooking turn for every weekend, nobody seem to care much. This weekend, I snapped. I still have not said anything or even shown my irritation but it will show up in how I do things. Just for example, friday I had to cook for myself at 10.00pm in the night since the food cooked got over - reason, unexpected guests. Sorry for that...well it does not fill my stomach neither am I going to settle for cold food borrowed from neighbor. Sorry, it is quite unacceptable to me. Saturday, I come home around 12 midnight, well...food was waiting for me. Rice and okra curry. When people complain for dhal and rice, I think I have every right to complain about this food. So, tomorrow, it is going to be plain eggs -that is during my cooking turn. the only things that I am going to cook eggs and dhal. Hmmm...
