Starvation in India

I should admit that I was naive enough to believe that starvation related deaths were mainly focused in Africa (Ethiopia, Sudan etc). Only after reading the BBC news on starvation in tea gardens I realize the difference between haves and have nots. Only yesterday I saw that India is the 10th largest economy. I don't know what to say now when I see both the news items together. Bharathiyar said, "Thaniyoru manidhanuku vunavilleyel indha jagathinai azhithiduvom". Immediately I wanted to blame the politicians, indifferent officials and apathetic tea garden owners, but is this problem so simple? Do I not have some responsibility, even indirectly? I dont know. Sometimes ignorance is a bliss.

Comments:
the least we can do is not waste the food that god has given us..
everytime we throw food, we must know that we are denying somebody......

and may be each one of us can contribute to some NGO or something..the thing is ...i think abt such things only when i see something disturbing..otherwise i dont bother and carry on with my life....

indifference

india is a counrty of contrasts, everyday i am haooy tat i have food on my plate and i am alive at the end of the day and not starving and dead. we are lucky yet we crib at the end of the day!

The contrasts in India is depressing

arvind,
Food has been made a basic right from last year.only to avoid starvation related deaths. But as usual somewhere between the govt order and the poor people getting the food the link is broken.
