A Passage to India
I am not sure of what to make of this movie. Firstly, the director never really shows if the heroine is indeed raped by Indian, Dr. Aziz. If his intension was to show the complexities of the Indian culture and lives of the people and the indifferent attitude of the British over Indians, why a rape, court scene and stuff. I really dont understand. What is further depressing is the fact that this film is nominated for several academy awards. I am at loss till now to understand what stands for good acting and cinematography. Why are these things so complex that common public is never able to appreciate or even understand them. Lastly, from my point of view (It might be stlightly a racist point of view), all I see from the movie is poor Indians, uncultured, uneducated and unsophisticated, even the educated acting quite stupidly, possible indecent attitude of Indian men towards the women, jingoistic portrayal of the freedom movement and finally to a naive viewer a bad picture of India. Wondering why they think this movie is a good movie. If somebody understands, please explain.....I am at loss.
