This is the latest news from chennai, which is fast becoming the cultural battle ground between old and new. Avinash was detained for wearing dark colored shirt to his college because MNM engineering college has a rule that only light colored shirts be worn. I really dont see the point. why does no one ask relevant questions in our society today. Nobody bothers if MNM engineering college has good labs, good lecturers, good management, good library but dark shirts, well that will spoil students. What is this logic? Why cant they just implement a simple uniform like we have in schools and put an end to dress code controversy.
Newspapers, blogs and media in general have commented extensively for/against/indifferent to the "cultural" comedy that is taking place in chennai. Right from political parties to various activists are taking sides. Very interesting questions are raised regarding culture, women rights etc. What is right and wrong, even truth is trasitionary in nature. It is unacceptable to general population (GP) in Tamilnadu/chennai to see women drinking/smoking/smooching etc. True that GP need not poke its nose, however it will. These issues and the on-going debate is a part of natural process and cultural evolution. We cannot copy blatantly the westnerzied life-style without assimilating it into our culture. Frictions like these are bound to happen. No point getting emotional about these, which ever side it is.
Hi, I am back after a long time. Needed a break since I am in the middle of something. Finally managed to find time and stuff to blog. Missed you all!
Found this beautiful photograph. About two children unable to go to school for lack of wealth. The hope and dejection reflected simulataneously in their faces, their helplessness, their innocence....a silent scream. Not sure if so many things that we take for granted and consider important have a point.
